Cartographie Sensible
I launched the "Cartographie Sensible" project with the support of Aurélia Bouyssonie, architect and founder of MARMO SPIRITO, as part of a talk at the Phosphor Creative District.
Sensitive mapping is a method of representing space through lived experiences, perceptions, and practices. It is rooted in subjective and contextual perspectives, embracing the personal and partial nature of geographic information.
The exhibition offers a personal interpretation of Tunis's urban and architectural heritage through two complementary visual practices: cartography, to explore the territory, and photography, to capture its social and natural landscapes.
The main frame is a depiction of the "northern suburbs," created through the digitization and georeferencing of Falbe's 1831 map, regarded as the first modern map of Tunis. This work reflects the personal testimony of the Danish consul during his stay, highlighting both beylical and foreign residences, as well as his archaeological research on Carthage. It encourages reflection on the region's development, political power dynamics, and the interplay between humans and nature.
The exhibition continues with a selection of photographs capturing the urban landscape of downtown Tunis, showcasing buildings from the 1860–1960 period and bearing witness to its architectural heritage on the scale of the city.
