Nour Zarrougui is a self-taught artist who belongs to a new wave of contemporary Tunisian artists. Working across different media, she has succeeded in constructing a parallel artistic world, a key to her emancipation as a Tunisian, African, and Arab woman. In closely examining her work, one can uncover a thirst for language and expression, a distinct presence of human faces, bodies, morphologies, and human complexities inspired by society and her ongoing medical career. She merges beauty with violence, simplicity with depth, purity with brutality, crafting a new definition of aesthetics while critiquing real-life scenes.
